Many Belizeans across the country today honored the memory of the Father of the Nation, the late Right Honorable George Cadle Price, on the anniversary of his passing. A wreath-laying ceremony was held at his gravesite this morning, where family members, national leaders, and supporters gathered to reflect on his enduring legacy. Representing the Price family, Miss Belize Universe 2025, Isabella Zabaneh, spoke of her great granduncle as a man of humility and devotion who placed service to others above all else. She highlighted that his simple lifestyle and deep faith were the guiding principles that shaped his leadership.
Prime Minister John Briceño, speaking on behalf of the People’s United Party and the nation, described George Price as a visionary leader whose pursuit of independence, national unity, and social justice continues to inspire Belize’s journey forward. He emphasized that Price not only secured the nation’s sovereignty but also worked tirelessly to uplift the poor and marginalized. According to the Prime Minister, George Price was more than a country leader or the man who led Belize to independence.
The annual commemoration of his passing is both a solemn remembrance and a call for Belizeans to embrace his values of unity, service, and patriotism. This morning’s gathering, marked by floral tributes and quiet reflection.
