
National Assembly and National Archives Collaborate on New Partnership

Also coming out of the House, was an announcement from the Speaker of the House reference a collaboration between the National Assembly and the National Archives.
Valerie Woods, Speaker of the House of Representatives: “This coming Monday at 2 p.m., the National Assembly of Belize, presided over by the Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate, will be embarking also on another first, which is the signing of an MOU with the Belize Archives and Records Service. The purpose of that, each year the National Assembly will be in the process of signing since 2020 has tried to contribute to the celebratory month, if you will, of September marking the independence of Belize’s anniversary. This year, the National Assembly will be, for the first time, taking out the instrument of independence that was handed over in 1981 and be handing it over to the Belize Archives and Records Service for proper preservation and storage. In addition to that, the National Assembly of Belize has also decided that it is timely that the parliamentary records of the National Assembly be done in a more modern fashion and that it be safeguarded as well. This will also be done with the support of the Belize Records and Service Unit.”
