The National Association of Village Councils has chosen a new board. The President is Delroy Valerio, who currently serves as the Chairman of Silk Grass Village in Stann Creek. His election was part of the annual general meeting of the association, which was held in Belmopan over the weekend. Correspondent, Pauline Soberanis-Tillett spoke to Valerio about his plans for the association under his leadership.
Minister responsible for Rural Development, Oscar Requena was also in Belmopan on Saturday witnessing how the event was staged and listening to feedback from village leaders about their communities can be uplifted. He discussed with Love News the importance of why dialoguing is important.
Supporting Valerio on the executive is Orlando Ayuso, who was named the association’s new vice president. Ayuso is currently the chairman of San Jose Nuevo Palmar Village in Orange Walk. The event, which was staged at the Belmopan Civic Centre, was held under the theme: “Strengthening Local Level Governance to Enhance National Development”.
