The Belize National Celebrations Commission proudly presented a BZ $20,000 cheque to the Belize Carnival Association to support the preparations for the 2024 Carnival Road March and Mas camps. This annual event, a cornerstone of our nation’s independence celebrations, involves extensive planning and hard work that begins months in advance. Councillor Eluide Miller, NCC Member, along with Albert Vaughan, Board Director at NICH, delivered the donation to Patrick Thompson, President of the Belize Carnival Association. Councillor Miller spoke to Love News about the need for the start up.

Eluide Miller, NCC Member: “The National Celebrations Commission as you know comprises of several members from across a wide range of sectors and so I am a member of that commission and so is the Carnival Association. And so last week we provided the Carnival Association with what we refer to as the start-up and this is a $20,000 contribution to just help them with some of their activities leading up to the celebration right? And so I know that the Carnival Association sometimes uses this contribution to assist bands that are trying to participate in the carnival. And so yeah, we were able to provide them with this startup funding in order for them to really carry out some of their activities leading up to the September celebration. They know the needs of their members. Of course they receive requests from their members throughout the September celebration season and so we leave that up to them. However, it’s something that we budget for each and every year and so we fulfill that commitment once again this year.”
