National Institute of Culture and History Holds Virtual Forum to sensitize public

The National Institute of Culture and History held a virtual stakeholder forum today, to sensitize the public about the work of its branches. The event gathered the directors from the Museum of Belize, Institute of Archeology, Institute of Creative Arts, and the Institute for Social and Cultural Research. A major focus of the discussions was how the various entities within NICH work with each other and various stakeholders for the preservation and promotion of culture in Belize.

The directors also spoke on funding opportunities for community groups to execute projects. Rolando Cocom, director of the ISCR, said that while resources are in short supply, NICH is working to make what is available more accessible to community groups and individuals. He gave an update on the culture fund which was relaunched in December 2023.

NICH held the digital forum as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations. The NICH AT 20 events are being held under the theme “Celebrating our heritage; Inspiring our future.”
