In an effort to promote the use of Kriol, the National Kriol Council of Belize has officially launched the second edition of its Kriol dictionary. This morning, the council unveiled the updated version of the dictionary, first released in 2007, at the Leo Bradley Library in Belize City. The new edition has over 560 new entries of English-to-Kriol translations and includes revised spellings to better reflect the country’s evolving culture. The updated edition, according to the council, also seeks to further establish Belizean Kriol as a legitimate and recognized language. Editor Silvaana Udz appeared on The Morning Show and spoke about its compilation.
Former Educator Yasser Musa encouraged the public to make use of the dictionary as a tool for learning and cultural connection.
The hard copies of the dictionary will soon be available at Angelus Press in Belize City.
