National Trade Union Congress Expresses Discontent Over Tripartite Body Inactivity

The National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) has fired off a letter to the Minister of Labor, Oscar Requena, expressing their discontent over the Tripartite Body (TB) not meeting since November last year. The union’s letter says that the situation is untenable and calls on Requena to urgently take the required action which allows the TB to return to functionality. The umbrella organization goes on to remind Requena of the important functions of the Tripartite Body which includes the certification of Trade Unions, enforcement of Collective Bargaining Agreements, and coordinating the recognition and enforcement of ratified ILO (International Labour Organization) Conventions. In ending the NTUCB requested that Requena nominate a Chair for the Tripartite Body who not only satisfies the Terms of Reference required to serve in that capacity but also is available to discharge the functions of the post.
