National Trade Union Congress Finally Meets with Prime Minister

It’s been close to three years since the National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) had asked to meet with Prime Minister John Briceno.  That request was finally fulfilled yesterday when the union met with the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Cordel Hyde and Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca.  During that meeting, we understand that the Prime Minister has committed to meeting with the union at least twice per year or every six months.  In yesterday’s meeting there were several matters discussed including the OSH Bill.  According to the President of the NTUCB, Luke Martinez, the Occupational and Safety Hazard Bill, better known as the OSH Bill, could see some progress come October this year despite some resistance from the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Labour.
