National Women’s Commission Reacts to Deputy Mayor’s Resignation: Calls for Policy Adherence

President of the National Women’s Commission (NWC), Thea Garcia-Ramirez has weighed in on Jenny Martinez’ resignation as Deputy Mayor of Benque Viejo, Cayo District. Martinez announced that she would be stepping down as deputy on the grounds that there have been cases of misogyny within the council.  Garcia-Ramirez empathizes with Martinez for what she experienced as a woman in politics but did indicate that there is a need to follow policies.

Based on 2021 studies by the National Women’s Commission, women in Power and decision-making is one of the pillars within the newly revised gender-based policy 2024-2030.
