A curfew for minors is in effect for the entire country of Belize. If any minor is found on the streets without parental guidance, the parents will be arrested and charged.
Hon. Michael Peyrefitte, Minister of National Security: “Every minor, everybody essentially then under sixteen shall remain and remain within the confines of private property during the hours of 6PM and 6AM unless the minor is accompanied by his parent or guardian. No children are to be in public between 6PM and 6AM, we want them at home. We want them at home between 6PM and 6AM that’s the ideal however sometimes parents have to leave the house and they have no choice but to take that child with them; the only exception will be if that child is with the parent or guardian. The child cannot be in public between 6PM and 6AM alone – have to be accompanied, and it says here every parent or guardian who allows this child to go out into public commits an offence so if you allow your child to break the curfew the penalty will be paid by the parents obviously not the child so please monitor your children and make sure that they don’t go out in the street without your presence between 6PM and 6AM; that’s for the whole country not just San Pedro so it’s not a curfew for people it’s a curfew for minor children.”
