Natural Resources Minister says great “efforts” will be required to settle Benque-Succotz delineation process

Earlier this week, we told you of the concerns raised by the residents of San Jose Succotz Village in Cayo District. They and the municipality of Benque Viejo del Carmen are part of re-delineation process, which started in seven municipalities in 2012. Yesterday, the Ministry of Local Government said that no final declaration of new municipal boundaries for any of the seven participating municipalities has been completed at this stage. Today, in a press encounter, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources, Cordel Hyde was asked for his views on the matter. He cited an age-old rivalry between the two western communities and has called for greater efforts to get it resolved once and for all.

The Ministry of Local Government’s position remains that a meeting of the two communities is yet to be convened to validate the revised proposition before the matter is to be taken for public review in both communities before a final confirmation.
