NEMO and BLPA Launch $200,000 Initiative to Aid Farmers Impacted by Tropical Storm Sara

In an effort to aid farmers impacted by Tropical Storm Sara, the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) and the Belize Livestock Producers Association (BLPA) launched a new initiative today. The project will assist impacted cattle farmers in the Belize River Valley and Crooked Tree Village. The initiative is being funded by a two hundred thousand Belize dollar contribution from the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The severe flooding that began in November 2024 led to the death of several heads of cattle and resulted in significant losses for farmers, limiting feed availability. Chief Executive Officer of the BLPA William Usher spoke on the project’s benefits and how it will have a long-term impact for some two hundred cattle farmers.

Farmers will also receive training in pasture establishment, veterinary health, and silage production.
