While there is no immediate threat of a tropical storm or hurricane, Coordinator for the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), Daniel Mendez, issued an advisory alerting residents to be prepared. Mendez says with the weather systems in the tropics becoming active there is a need to be ready to activate a hurricane plan.

Daniel Mendez, National Emergency Coordinator, NEMO: “I also do want to stress, however, that we are heading into the peak of the hurricane season and this is very normal at this time to see heightened activity. So it’s really important for everyone to understand that if you don’t have a hurricane plan or a plan as yet, you need to do it. We see the tropics have started to become active. So the time to plan is now. You need to have your plan ready. You need to know what to do. So we will continue to stress that for the rest of the season. So it is really important to be aware and to listen to all of the warnings and the briefings that are coming out from the Met Service and the National Hydrology Service as well. As I said, NEMO is on standby as normal. We will continue to monitor and be prepared to render any assistance as is required.”
These recent reports on the incoming weather system were delivered during a press conference hosted by NEMO this afternoon.
