New Belize Ambassador Strengthens Ties With Taiwan


Katherine Meighan, Belize’s Ambassador to the Republic of China (Taiwan), officially presented her Letters of Credence to H.E. President Lai Ching-te, marking a significant moment in Belize–Taiwan relations.  During the ceremony, Ambassador Meighan emphasized the enduring friendship between Belize and Taiwan, highlighting their shared democratic values and mutual commitment to collaboration. President Lai Ching-te welcomed the ambassador, reiterating Taiwan’s dedication to deepening cooperation with Belize across multiple sectors.  Katherine Vanessa Meighan is the recently appointed Ambassador, having assumed the position last month. Before entering the diplomatic arena, Ambassador Meighan had a distinguished career in Belize’s business and civic sectors. She served as the President of the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where she played a pivotal role in fostering trade and investment ties between Belize and Taiwan. Ambassador Meighan is also an alumna of National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan, where she earned her Master of Business Administration degree in 2005. Her academic background and previous experiences in Taiwan have equipped her with a unique perspective and understanding of the region, enhancing her effectiveness as a diplomatic representative. Love News understands that in her new role, the ambassador hopes to deepen Belize–Taiwan cooperation across various sectors, including education, culture, technology, and climate initiatives. She has expressed a strong commitment to strengthening the enduring friendship between the two nations, emphasizing shared democratic values and mutual respect.
