New Belizean Soldiers Lack Firearms Training Due to Ammunition Shortage

And while the new soldiers honed many skills during their training, they didn’t learn a critical part of being a soldier, which is, how to handle firearms. That’s because there was a shortage of ammunition. When we asked Minister Marin his thoughts about the new soldiers not receiving firearms training before passing out, he said it wouldn’t impact their performance. Marin said that constant training is the hallmark of being a soldier, so the new soldiers will have plenty of opportunities to handle guns in the future.
