The Ministry of Health & Wellness’s Health Education and Community Participation Bureau (HECOPAB) is continuing its nationwide expansion of the Community Health Worker (CHW) Program, with a recent focus on the Toledo District. This week, 28 enthusiastic new recruits in Toledo participated in crucial practical training sessions centered on Early Childhood Nutrition and Monitoring. These hands-on exercises are equipping the future workers with the skills necessary to effectively serve and support families within their communities. A dedicated Nutritionist facilitator guided the important session, ensuring comprehensive instruction. The program also extended special gratitude to parents who graciously allowed their babies to be part of the training demonstrations, enriching the learning experience for these budding health professionals. The Ministry anticipates officially welcoming these new members as part of a strengthened community health response, particularly in reaching underserved populations and promoting better health outcomes from an early age. The CHW program has been a cornerstone of Belize’s primary healthcare system since its inception in 1982, and this ongoing training ensures its continued impact.
