In this week’s national budget debate, Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa addressed the growing threat of illegal firearms in Belize and the wider region. As part of the government’s response, Belize established the Firearms and Ammunition Control Board tasked with overseeing all firearm-related activities, including the issuance and revocation of licenses, which was previously under the sole authority of the Commissioner of Police. Musa noted that the FACB introduces a new level of transparency and accountability to firearm oversight in Belize.

Through this, the government aims to curb the proliferation of illegal guns and ensure safer communities across the country.
