Residents of Belize City may have noticed that the Immigration office has moved from the Charles Bartlett Hyde building on Mahogany Street to the Philip Goldson Highway. The new building has been operational since May 4 with all its services fully restored. Minister of State in the Ministry of Immigration, Beverly Williams, stated that they used the time during the countrywide lockdown in April to move over to the new building.
Beverly Williams, Minister of State, Ministry of Immigration Services: “As you all may be aware recall the amalgamation of tax services where the General Sales Tax, the Income Tax Department were amalgamated to become the Tax Services Department. Of course that is a measure that I highly support having been Commissioner of General Sales Tax at it’s implementation and we are aware of how efficient that amalgamation can be for the collection of taxes. So in terms of putting that together there was a need to find better spaces for the front end services and so immigration having been on the ground floor it would have been difficult for us to remain and only the side where the former GST office was used for the front line services and so that entire building will now consume tax services department and we had to find another location.”
The Immigration Department is opened from 9am to 4pm.
