New Ombudsman Headquarters Opens in Belmopan to Enhance Public Access

The Office of The Ombudsman officially launched its new headquarters in Belmopan today. It is the first time the office will be moved outside of Belize City since it was established in July 1999. The move from its location on Freetown Road to Mount Margaret Drive, Belmopan. was announced in December last year. The Ombudsman, Retired Major Gilbert Swazo says the decision was taken to provide greater service to the Belizean public as it offers a more central location. He noted that the Freetown location posed accessibility issues for disabled persons and the elderly. It also posed a security concern due to the business located downstairs.

Swazo, who was officially sworn in as Ombudsman on February 10, 2023, noted that efforts are being made to increase accessibility by establishing offices country-wide.
