With Carnival Day just around the corner on Saturday, September 7, the Belize City Council has announced a series of safety measures to ensure the wellbeing of participants and spectators during the event. These measures were put in place to accommodate the new carnival route that will be implemented this year. In a notice today, the Council emphasized that no parking will be allowed on the streets or sidewalks along the Carnival route. Love News spoke to President of the Belize Carnival Association, Patrick Thompson, about the need to embrace the changes made.

Patrick Thompson, President, Belize Carnival Association: “What happened is the route we are focusing on trying to have a safer carnival. So we are trying this route as a sense of seeing how much we can make the carnival be safe for both revelers and the bystanders. But I must say the City Council are working with us and they see it fit what they put out because like I said the route it’s not like the normal route with the spacing so I believe that that was the reason why they put out the vendors notice that you are talking about. Like I always say no matter what the changes is these bands will always bring that energy, that hype so you won’t miss anything, they won’t shy away from bringing the excitement, the colorful costumes that you all will be seeing and energy. So I must say come September 7th expect the same energy or even more energy from these bands come carnival day.”
Residents and visitors are advised to plan and comply with the regulations to help make Carnival 2024 a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
