One week after the general elections, Henry Charles Usher, newly appointed minister responsible for the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) paid a visit to the NEMO Office in Belmopan. Usher, along with his CEO Rolando Zetina, moved over from the former Ministry of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform for the second term of the Briceno administration. Usher succeeds Andre Perez as the Minister for NEMO. The Minister and CEO met with the various departments within NEMO to be briefed on their work and learn about ongoing initiatives. The meeting comes at a critical time for NEMO as Belize prepares to enter into the latter part of the dry season, which sees the increased potential for wildfires. The meeting also comes just two months before the start of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, another important time of the year for NEMO. Last year, NEMO had to activate to address several major disaster issues including massive bushfires in the Cayo and Toledo districts, as well as flooding in various parts of the country due to excessive rainfall and Tropical Storm Sara.//////
