NGOs Request Report and Disclosure in Portico Development Project

Sticking with the Portico Development Project, a coalition of NGOs wrote to the Prime Minister today, requesting, a report from the designated Cabinet sub-Committee, comprised of the Ministries of Finance, Natural Resources, Tourism, Logistics, Sustainable Development, and the Blue Economy, charged with executing a “timely and efficient follow-up on all aspects of the cruise sector; A report on the status of the necessary revisions to the Environmental Impact Assessment regulations; and the The disclosure of the Martin Alegria report related to cruise port and causeway development projects. According to the NGOs, this request is a follow up to their collective call in August 2022 for a comprehensive review of the related and relevant environmental laws being applied to development proposals, including but not limited to the cruise tourism sector.  We will have more on this letter in tomorrow’s news.
