The month of September is upon us and, as such, the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) has issued the 2019 September Celebrations calendar. As every Belizean knows, September is a month full of activities for adults and children throughout the country. To highlight some of the activities, we start at the end of August. On the 30th, the carnival motorcade is happening as well as the Queen of the Bay pageant which will be held in Belize City, at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts. On the 31st it is the official launch of the September Celebrations, which will be broadcast nationally, and the Carnival King and Queen Competition, which will be held at the Marion Jones Stadium. September 1 is the National Flag Day and the Flag Raising Ceremony will be at the Flag Monument in Belize as well as at different locations around the country. The Miss Universe competition will be held on September 6 at the Belize Civic Center. The next day, September 7, will be Carnival J’ouvert throughout the streets of Belize City. Later that same day will be the much anticipated Carnival Road March. On the 9th, throughout the country, will be the fire engine parade. As everyone knows, the 10th September signifies the 221st anniversary of the Battle of St. George’s Caye. On that day, the official ceremonies will be held at the Memorial Park, and around the country, as well as the 10th parade throughout Belize City. September 13th will see the entire country celebrating National Colors Day, and on the 14th and 15th Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be holding their annual Expo at the Marion Jones Stadium. The 14th will also see Pan Yaad in Belmopan at the Our Lady of Guadalupe school grounds. On the 20th, the country will get ready for the Flag Raising Ceremony and fireworks display at multiple locations. The next day, the jewel celebrates its 38th anniversary. The official Independence Ceremony will be held in Belmopan at the Independence Plaza. Children in primary and high school, as well as tertiary level students, will participate in the uniform parade in different parts of the country. These are only a handful of the events Belizeans have to look forward to for this year’s September celebrations, which will be under the theme, ‘From Maya Grandeur to Modern Glory, Together let’s Shape the Belizean Story.’ Love FM and Love Television will carry some of these events LIVE.
