Nijah Brandon charged with Possession of Counterfeit Currency

Twenty-three-year-old Nijah Brandon, a construction worker of La Democracia, was charged with possession of counterfeit currency when he appeared today before Magistrate Michelle Trapp. The police have alleged that on November 23, at around 3:30 p.m. they went to the upper flat of a house, located on Pelican Street and saw a young man sitting on a sofa. They said they informed the person that a search would be conducted on him for firearm and drugs. The police said that the search resulted in the discovery of two fifty dollars notes, Belize counterfeit currency in the right front pocket of his pants. Brandon wanted to plead guilty to the charge with an explanation, but Magistrate Trapp entered an equivocal plea of not guilty when he explained that he got the money from a man to whom he sold a pair of shoes. He said he wanted one hundred and forty dollars for the shoes but he accepted one hundred and thirty dollars because he did not have any money to pay for his bus fare to La Democracia. Brandon was offered a bail of two hundred dollars, which he met. But as soon as he met bail two CIB officers from Ladyville took him into custody because other charges are expected to be made against him.
