The Ministry of Health and Wellness is tonight reporting two hundred thirty-three new COVID-19 cases and fortunately, no new deaths. The Ministry also reports that the total number of vaccines available stands at 211,750. A total of106, 600 are Pfizer and 109,150 are Johnson and Johnson. To date, only 69.07 percent of the targeted population has received the vaccine. In the districts, Orange Walk ranks the highest with 58.6 percent of its residents being vaccinated and Stann Creek ranks the lowest with only 39.5 percent of its population being vaccinated. The Ministry also announced that it would be looking at getting rid of the remaining COVID-19 regulations, including the need to be fully vaccinated when departing the country. Other parts of the world, such as the United States of America, have also relaxed departure regulations. Today, we asked the president of the Belize Hotel Association, Reynaldo Malik, if members of the association will be following suit and will get rid of the regulations at their establishments. Here is how he responded.
Although hotels and resorts in Belize might not be supporting the government’s move to eliminate certain COVID-19 protocols, Malik says that they are in favour of allowing their guests to travel with their personal testing kits.
