Shots rang out in the quiet neighborhood of Belama Phase One on Friday night just after eleven o’clock. Two dark complexion male persons kicked open the back door and fired several shots. Three persons were present at the home during the invasion, a minor, his mother 44-year-old Edalia Cordon, and his grandmother 84-year-old Helen Lord. The minor was the only person who was shot and received an injury to the right foot. The male persons fled the scene making a good escape via the river. Love News spoke to the neighbor who initiated the 911 call when the incident occurred.
Neighbor: “I was in my bedroom and I heard two shots and I immediately got my phone and called 9-1-1. A little while later we came to the front door and saw two persons running away towards the river in dark colored clothing. The young man he is a twelve year old boy, goes to Holy Redeemer. I have known the mother for an amount of years. That was really scary, I thought it was my house they were shooting at. Yes the police were here and they were asking questions but there is not much we could say or do. What they need to do is have more patrols. First they used to patrol the river but they haven’t been doing that for a while now.”
According to Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero, No person has been detained in relation to the incident.
Sr.Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch: “No one is detained at this time for this shooting.”
Reporter: The men they went into the home and fired shots have you established maybe a motive for why they went to that house ?
Sr.Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch: “We have not established a motive as yet. Investigators are presently conducting their investigation.”
Reporter: Do we know who may have been the target of that shooting ? I imagine it wasn’t that minor?
Sr.Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch: “We are not sure who was the target.”
The minor was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for medical treatment and was listed in a stable condition.
