Nominations Open for James A. Waight Environmental Conservation Award
The Belize Audubon Society is looking for the 38 James A. Waight winner. Prestigious award honors individuals or organizations that actively contribute to the vital cause or conservation and enhancing Belize’s unique environment on a national or local level. Celia Mahung, former Executive Director of the Toledo Institute for Development and Environment holds the title. Nominations are open for Belizeans who actively engage in work directly related to the conservation and protection of the environment. Nominees must also contribute to ecosystem conservations such as forest, reef or the coastal zone, pollution control, waste management, ecotourism promotion, the socioeconomic environment, indigenous right and socio-cultural protection. The Belize Audubon Society is looking for individuals who demonstrate a strong social dimension as well as someone who can contribute non- traditional approaches. It is essential for nominations to include photographic or video evidence of how they meet the criteria. The winner will be announced on February 16. The nomination form can be found on the organization’s website. Deadline for submission is December 15.
