North Front Street Revamped into New Belize City Fish Fry Tourism Hub

One of Belize City’s central commercial spaces on North Front Street has been transformed into a Fish Fry area, and a vibrant hub for culture, tourism, and economic activity.  The project was developed through collaboration between community stakeholders, tourism partners, government leadership, and one of Belize’s oldest fishing cooperatives. The goal is to modernize the long-standing market while preserving the tradition of local fishermen supplying fresh seafood to residents and visitors alike.  Officials say the upgraded space will introduce a “Fish Fry” concept, similar to those found across several Caribbean destinations, where visitors can enjoy freshly prepared seafood in an open and lively waterfront setting.  During a recent discussion on the initiative, John Briceño spoke with Anthony Mahler, the Minister of Tourism and Area Representative for Pickstock, about the inspiration behind the project.

The revitalized fish market is expected to become a lively gathering point along the city’s waterfront, celebrating Belize’s fishing heritage while opening new doors for economic activity in the heart of the Old Capital.  Minister Mahler explained that the idea for the fish fry concept came from his visits to other Caribbean countries where similar models have become popular attractions that support local fishermen and small vendors.  Prime Minister Briceño welcomed the initiative, noting that developments such as this help strengthen Belize City’s tourism appeal while creating additional income opportunities for local residents.
