North Park Street has been renamed Taiwan Street by the Belize City Council as a gesture to show Belize’s appreciation for Taiwan’s generosity to Belize. Taiwan has given a lot to Belize including offering scholarships to Belizean students to study in Taiwan, donating two helicopters, donating two hundred and twenty-two thousand US dollars to health in order to prevent and control Chronic Renal Failure as well as helping to establish Belize’s e-government through ICT. A short ceremony was held to mark the occasion where Ambassador Charles Liu expressed his gratitude.
Ambassador Charles Liu
“They call Taiwan ‘Formosa’ this means a beautiful island. With such magnificent seashores, Belize is the same, there are the great barrier reef and the beautiful cayes. We are all privileged to live in the land we call the jewel; the jewel of the Caribbean and the Jewel is South East Asia. As Taiwan’s ambassador to Belize I, therefore, feel very privileged to witness the naming of a street in Belize City after my home country. Many thanks to Mayor Bradley and the City Council’s initiative. I find the name of Taiwan Street very inspiring and encouraging.”
Taiwan continues to be one of Belize’s strongest allies.
