NTUCB Condemns Assault, Calls for Investigation and Public Service Modernization

We brought you the story of the case of assault at the western border on May 7.  Seven days later, the National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) issued a press statement condemning the act by the senior immigration officer who has since been arrested and criminally charged.  The release is calling for an immediate investigation and that action be taken.  Interestingly, an investigation was launched on May 8, and by the end of that day, the Ministry of Immigration had placed Officer Saul Lisbey on administrative leave.  The union is also calling for more training on professionalism via the Ministry of Public Service.  While the union is late on calling for an investigation, what it is also calling for is a modernization of the Public Service Regulations to best incorporate C190 to address violence and harassment in the workplace.
