The National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) has received reports that some of the members of the National Student Union of Belize are being targeted for leaving classes last Thursday to attend the NTUCB’s demonstration on corruption.  The NTUCB stated in a press release that they condemn, in the highest possible manner, the action of some individuals at UB. While they do not seek to bring disrepute to the University, they, quote, “refuse to believe that the one institution who should be promoting freedom of thought and freedom of expression could be acting contrary to its own principles.” End quote. According to NTUCB, the University is not a prison and students are free to leave provided they can find a way to make up for any academic loss during their absence. The NTUCB applauds the students who took part in the movement, and calls on the principals at UB to ensure its staff understands the premise of their concern. They plan to take any necessary action if the management of UB seeks to endorse those types of actions against its students.  Love News understands that the university has denied these claims.  We will have more on this in tomorrow’s newscast.
