The National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) marked its 59-year anniversary with a march and unity rally on Saturday. Led by NTUCB’s President, Ella Waight, union members gathered at the Belize City Civic Center parking lot before making their way through the principal streets of the city, eventually converging at Battlefield Park for the rally. Waight emphasized that this year’s theme is not just aspirational, but a direct response to the increasing public demand for transparency, social justice, and equitable working conditions across Belize.
The rally saw the relaunch of the NTUCB’s youth arm, signaling a renewed focus on engaging younger generations in national advocacy. The union also called for the establishment of a youth senator to ensure the voices of Belize’s young people are heard and represented at the highest levels of governance. Ashley Longford, the youth representative for NTUCB explained how persons can join.
The unity rally included guest speaker attorney Dickie Bradley.
