NTUCB President Gets the Jab

Meanwhile, the number of vaccinated persons continues to increase. To date, more than one hundred twenty-five thousand persons have received their first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine. One of those persons is NTUCB President Luis Martinez, who encourages others to get the jab. Here again is Hipolito Novelo.

As he promised last week, President of the National Trade Union Congress of Belize Luis Luke Martinez received his first jab of the Astrazeneca vaccine on Tuesday.

Luis Martinez, President, NTUCB: “When we spoke about this last week I said that as a leader I’m prepared to take the vaccination. I’ve also indicated to you that I’ve never been vaccinated too.”

And for his first vaccine, Martinez visited the Belmopan Civic Center. He says the process was quick and virtually painless.

Luis Martinez, President, NTUCB: “I sat there, like anything that pierces your skin you would feel the little pinch but that’s it you feel a little pinch, the injection area you will feel after the medication and that’s it. I took the vaccine around one thirty this afternoon and so far I’ve been feeling normal. I’ve been feeling quite okay. They say forty eight hours so I hope that in the next forty five hours I’ll continue to feel okay.”

So far more than forty-eight thousand persons have been fully vaccinated and like those person, Martinez saw the need to be vaccinated.

Luis Martinez, President, NTUCB: “I understand the severity of the pandemic. We understand how much it has put business to a halt globally and so if the vaccination process is going to mitigate a lot of those issues and assist us in getting us back to some kind of normalcy then I think that is something a thinking individual would do along with securing your health.”

And its Martinez’s hope that he can inspire more people to get the jab.

Luis Martinez, President, NTUCB: “It wouldn’t be fair for me to be encouraging our colleagues, our comrades to get vaccinated – and I’m speaking on my behalf – that we encourage people to get vaccinated and then I refuse to take the vaccination. You have to lead by example right ? And we keep holding others to lead by example so as a leader I have the responsibility to lead by example.”
