Since the story aired, many Belizeans have come forward claiming they’ve been victims of this scam. Also supporting the Minister’s comment is the President of the National Trade Union Congress of Belize, Luis Martinez. Martinez shared what a member of the NTUCB executive went through.
Luis Luke Martinez, President, NTUCB: “While I was there visiting, he explained to me that his wife was all over Orange Walk trying to get medication that the hospital claimed that they needed. It was an ointment, and so this ointment, the nurses use the ointment to put on your body before they put on the bandage, so that the bandage doesn’t stick on your skin. So the hospital was claiming that they don’t have the medication, and so the member’s relatives were driving all over Orange Walk trying to find this medication. You know what is sad? Only to find out that Northern Regional had the medication. But even more pressing, and this brings…it kinda…like… what the minister was saying, because I heard the minister, I think on T.V. yesterday, and I think while he was doing this interview, exactly what he was saying in his interview was playing out right in front of me.”
