NTUCB Raises Safety Concerns for Workers During BTL Protest

In the height of the protest on the BTL compound, concerns also heightened over the safety and wellbeing of workers inside the Belize Telemedia Limited, BTL.  President of the National Trade Union Congress of Belize, NTUCB, Ella Waight, says she was informed that union members working inside the building were frightened by the level of aggression being displayed, as UDP supporters clashed with police while attempting to force their way into the facility.  Waight explained that while unions fully support the right to protest, the safety of workers must remain paramount, especially when demonstrations take place at active workplaces where union brothers and sisters are carrying out their duties. She noted that the NTUCB made a conscious decision not to breach the BTL compound, emphasizing the importance of acting responsibly and avoiding actions that could place workers at risk.

Waight further stressed that union advocacy must be guided by discipline and respect, warning that intimidation and disorder only serve to undermine legitimate labor concerns.  Love News continues to monitor developments surrounding the protest and its impact on workers.
