Dr. Osmond Martinez, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, along with officials from the Directorate General for Foreign Trade, visited Obregon Coconut Company Ltd. in Bella Vista Village last Thursday. Established in 2018, Obregon Coconut Company Ltd. has rapidly grown into one of Belize’s agricultural powerhouses. Spanning 3,500 acres, including 2,100 acres equipped with advanced drip irrigation systems, the company specializes in cultivating Hybrid Chactumel and Brazilian Green Dwarf coconuts. In 2024, the company harvested over two million coconuts, with projections of 10 million for 2025, positioning it as a key player in the region’s coconut industry. Looking ahead, Obregon Coconut Company is preparing for ambitious expansions. A state-of-the-art packing station, set for completion between 2025 and 2026, aims to streamline production and meet growing demand. The company is also pursuing new export opportunities within CARICOM, the United States, and the European Union, showcasing its focus on value-added production and international market penetration. During the visit, company representatives shared insights into operational challenges, including drought, pest management, and labor shortages, and requested government support for improved irrigation infrastructure, pest control solutions, and streamlined labor importation policies.
