Oceana Honors Belizean Wavemakers at Annual General Meeting

Wavemakers were announced and awarded at Oceana’s 2023 Annual General Meeting. Belizean Wavemakers are part of more than a million Oceana members that support the protection and restoration of the world’s oceans. This year, over 200 Wavemakers from across the country, including Caye Caulker and Ambergis Caye, attended the 13th annual general meeting that saw this year’s guest speaker as attorney Glenfield Dennison. During the ceremony, several Wavemakers were recognized for their support for Oceana’s campaign and initiatives over the past year. With over one thousand Wavemakers in Belize, Jacinta Usher, the Outreach Director for the program spoke on the efforts to narrow down a list of nominees.

The awardees included Marvin Monterroso from Corozal; Naomi Sylvania from Belize City, Jiselle Awe from Cayo; Seferina Miss from Stann Creek, and Rinelva Ico from Toledo. Sarteneja Alliance for Conservation and Development was awarded the second annual partner of the year. The National Wavemaker of the Year was awarded to Limairi Pott from Orange Walk. Limairi was recognized for her “exceptional dedication, organizational prowess and resourcefulness in engaging persons in the field during Oceana’s signature drive. With the Wavemaker awards now over, Usher shared news of upcoming events and what interested individuals can do to become members of the program.

The Ocean hero Awards takes place on November 10.
