Office of the Ombudsman Relocating to Belmopan for Expanded Public Access

Office of the Ombudsman Relocating to Belmopan for Expanded Public Access

The Office of The Ombudsman is relocating next month. Yesterday, it was announced that the office would be moving from its location on Freetown Road to Belmopan, effective December 2. It is the first time the office is being moved from the Belize City boundaries since it was established on 8th July 1999. The decision seeks to provide greater service to the Belizean public as it offers a more central location. It also comes almost a year after the Ombudsman, Retired Major Gilbert Swazo announced that he would have been moving to expand the office’s reach. Last year, Swaso stated that he was in the process of working with the various municipalities to establish offices country-wide.

Swazo was sworn in as the Ombudsman on February 10, 2023.
