Shane Bennett, the accused man in the shooting of Anthony Parks, has a long list of criminal charges. According to the Commissioner of Police, he is a big figure in the drug world. With this latest shooting taking place in southern Belize, the ComPol stated that officers in the Stann Creek area must be on alert to curb drug-related crimes.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “As I’ve said to the commanders that whenever they move into their area that we must stay on top of them. We cannot give them the opportunity to build an empire. As we see it occurring we must move in and try to dismantle it so that is what we have been doing across the country. But you would know a community is a community, Belizeans are Belizeans they are free to move around anywhere in the country as they so wish, it’s just a matter for us to ensure that whenever they do move that we try as best as we can to curtail the illicit activities.”

Back in 2015, Bennett was charged for abduction, rape, aggravated assault and robbery after he sexually assaulted a woman and stole her friend’s car. In 2016, he was detained for burglary, theft, and other crimes, but managed to escape police custody by cutting the bars inside the cell. Later that year, in April, he was recaptured in Placencia. During the time of his escape, he also became a suspect in the murder of Glen Logan, a Mango Creek businessman who was shot in the chest. In 2019, Bennett himself was shot after he pulled out a BB gun on another man during an argument. The other man then pulled out a real gun and opened fire.
