Official Inauguration of Haulover Bridge Marks Milestone for Belize Infrastructure

More than two months after the soft opening of the Haulover Bridge the government of Belize held the official inauguration for the bridge today. Reporter Benjamin Flowers has the story.

As this administration was able to bring the plans of a new Haulover Bridge to fruition, Prime Minister John Briceno did indicate that efforts towards this project began under the previous administration.  While the funding was secured for the bridge in 2017, the current government was able to revisit the cost which saw a savings of an estimated 29 million dollars.

Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “The need for a new bridge was recognized by the previous administration who secured funding for the project to commence some years ago but somehow they were never able to realize this possibility. Then in 2020 our administration seeing the urgency with which this bridge was needed set upon the work to redesign and create a new concept that would see Belizean engineers and Belizean ingenuity and its best.”

The first design drafted under the previous administration was for a single-span arched bridge with a cost of 59 million Belize dollars.
