OJ Elrington Responds to GLC Allegations: Denies Wrongdoing, Claims Verbal Consent

Orson OJ Elrington has responded to the reports coming out of the General Legal Council’s report.  His response came via the office of his father, Senior Counsel Hubert Elrington.  According to OJ Elrington, he was, ‘approached by Mr. Dozie to challenge the decision of the Social Security Board regarding the denial of a widower’s pension. He says he advised the client that the decision itself would not bear any fruit as it was the law itself that discriminated against men. The client did insist, and Elrington reportedly launch a successful challenge on that specific provision of the Social Security Act.  According to Elrington, it has been alleged by Dozie that he did not consent to the settlement agreement finally reached, leading to a complaint lodged with the GLC. It is important to clarify that the complaint pertains solely to the consent issue and not to any unwillingness to hand over funds, as erroneously suggested by certain media reports.  He further noted that the GLC had determined that there was a breach of the Legal Profession Rules, based on their assessment that Dozie did not consent to the settlement. Elrington maintains that while his office inadvertently failed to secure his consent in writing, Dozie, over a telephone conversation verbally agreed to the terms. Interestingly, the document from the legal council did specify that none of the monies that Elrington received had been passed on to the client.  We will keep tracking this story as it develops.
