Olympic Sprinter Shaun Gill Seeks Support for New Academic Journey

Shaun Gill, the Olympic sprinter, and viral internet sensation, has embarked on a new journey, blending his athletic prowess with academic ambitions. Gill was recently accepted into the master’s degree program in Industrial Management at Texas A&M University in Kingsville, USA. Gill, widely recognized for his presence at the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony, is representing Belize in sprinting events. But while the athlete is hoping for support for the Olympics, he is also calling for financial support for his education journey. Gill spoke to us today about a new GoFundMe account launched to raise funds.

Shawn Gill, Belizean Olympic Athlete: “So I recently graduated with my bachelor’s in industrial engineering and it’s kind of a new idea to me when I decided that I want to further my studies. So this is how I came about planning and contemplating about doing a master’s. And it would be at the same school I attended. In the past I attended Texas A&M in Kingsville and the College of Engineering. I just decided that I wanted to further my studies and so I decided that I would pursue or I will pursue a master’s in industrial management. GoFundMe campaign is something new. I never really tried it before. It was just kind of like a, I don’t know, a sudden idea I just had and I said let me try it and you know it’s been kind of slow moving so far but I mean if the supporters do want to help, I mean any amount works, you know, any amount works. The goal I have set on there is 25,000 US, but I mean, any support goes a long way.”

The funds raised through the GoFundMe campaign will cover essential expenses such as travel costs from Belize to Texas, tuition fees, and living expenses. Love will have more on Gill’s Olympic experience in tomorrow’s newscast.
