One more Belizean has died due to COVID-19. That’s what the Ministry of Health and Wellness is reporting tonight. With today’s confirmed COVID fatality, the death toll is now at 679. In addition, there were 277 new infections tallied. With this report, there are one thousand nine hundred and seventy-seven active cases. Just as it was yesterday, Belize District reported most of the infections at 104. Belize City alone had 83 new cases. Cayo District had 55 new cases, which included fourteen in Belmopan and ten in San Ignacio. And while the stats are worrying, we asked how the Ministry differentiates COVID-19 from regular influenza that most of us have already caught. The Ministry’s Director of Health & Wellness, Dr. Melissa Diaz explained.
Stann Creek had 47 new cases, which included 23 in Dangriga. There were 26 in the Toledo District, 17 of which were in Punta Gorda Town. The northern districts had a combined 41 infections, which included 17 in Corozal Town and nine in Orange Walk Town. San Pedro, once the epicentre of the pandemic, recorded only four cases today
