Moving on now to the health sector, our newsroom has been informed of one COVID-19 related death that occurred over the weekend in the Orange Walk District. This is the first COVID-19 related death that has been reported in weeks. This puts the death toll at three-hundred and twenty-six. In other recent data, there are thirty-four additional confirmed cases of Covid-19, with sixteen new recoveries. Claudette Dakers Norales of the Ministry of Health and Wellness provides the statistics accumulated over the weekend.
Claudette Dakers Norales, Ministry of Health and Wellness: “A total of 1,741 samples were tested. Out of this, 34 samples have resulted positive for COVID19. There are 16 new recoveries to report. Today we also report that there are 4 infected persons hospitalized. We have one person in the intensive care unit and one new death to report. The cumulative report we are presenting is from March 2020 when we had our first case. The new total of active cases now stands at 153, these are those persons who have been confirmed and are within the timeframe to transmit the virus. To date 142,646 samples have been tested nationally. Out of this, 12,971 samples have resulted positive for COVID19. There are 115 individuals newly under investigation. A total of 326 deaths have been reported but we are pleased to report that there are 12,479 total recoveries. The heat map shows the districts mostly affected. The greatest number of cases is seen in Stann Creek, Belize and Orange Walk districts.”
