One house burns down while another is shot at

A fire erupted at a house in St Matthews Village, Cayo District yesterday. As of today, a cause has still not been ascertained and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvett, stated that there is no indication of arson.

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch: On yesterday’s date shortly after 5pm Roaring Creek police were called to St.Matthew’s Village at the home of one Jose Belis a Guatemalan national who reported to police that he received a telephone call shortly before 5pm that his home was on fire, so he rushed home where he observed his wooden completely engulfed in flames. The fire department was unable to save any of his belongings so both his home and his belongings were completely destroyed by fire. At the time of the fire no one was at home at his residence.”

A woman’s house in Belize City was shot up on Saturday. While she escaped unscathed, Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero reported that her dog was killed.

Sr.Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch: “On Saturday the eight day of February 2020 at about 10:15pm police responded to a shooting incident at Faber’s Road. Upon their arrival they met Marcelina Reyes, 52, who reported that whilst at home she heard several gunshots. She came out and made checks thereafter and found bullet holes on her house and noticed that her dog was dead after receiving one of the gunshots.”

According to police, there were no reports that she had been threatened prior to this incident.
