Fourteen new cases of covid-19 were identified today, which puts Belize over the one thousand mark. The country now has one thousand and seven confirmed cases, with eight hundred and twenty one of them being active. While fourteen is on the lower end of cases that have been confirmed recently, Saturday saw the highest number of cases with ninety four. According to Dr Marvin Manzanero, this was expected as the Ministry of Health team did a sweep in Orange Walk.
Dr.Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services: “Saturday-Sunday we had kind of anticipated that that was what was going to happen. We had said at the press conference on Friday that the sweep of Orange Walk had been done with the more active communities. It of course doesn’t mean that you’re in the clear you just have to go and continue to look for the cases actively. So we were anticipating we were going to get significant amount from Orange Walk and that happened yesterday and we still see cases today being significantly now in the Orange Walk district.”
In related news, the Dorothy Menzies Child Care Center has given an update on the child that tested positive for covid-19. The child was tested a second time and the result is now negative. The minor is reportedly doing well physically and is engaged in counselling. The Ministry of Health has advised that the contact tracing result has been inconclusive. The remaining twenty one residents at the centre were swabbed and their results were negative.
