The middle of April was the last time Belize recorded a COVID-19 related death. Today, that stretch of almost a month was broken with a new fatality reported today. The Ministry of Health and Wellness also adds that there were 80 new cases and 26 more people have recovered. However, 157 people are still under investigation and active cases now stand at 619. Of the new cases today, 44 were in Belize District, which includes 31 here in Belize City. Cayo District tallied 15, which includes four in Belmopan. The northern districts had five cases combined while there were only nine cases in the entire south. Eight people remain in hospital; half of that amount is fully vaccinated. The single death was an unvaccinated person. Remember to wash your hands, watch your distance and wear your masks to prevent the spread.
