One person charged for PC Woodeye aggravated assault

WOMAN ARRESTED

24-year-old Joleel Petillo was arrested and charged for the aggravated assault of Police Constable, William Woodeye who was shot at on Mapp Street Belize City on Wednesday, January 29. The Police Officer was not shot but while avoiding the gunshots he collided into another vehicle and fell off his motorcycle. Today, Superintendent Alejandro Cowo, stated that the incident was in connection with a robbery that occurred earlier that day but no charges were made for that.

Reporter: Are they suspects in the robbery that occurred a short time before that ?

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City: “We believe yes that they were part of that robbery and we are still looking for two more persons.”

Reporter: Is there any charges for that ?

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City:Not for the robbery as yet as we are still trying to convince the persons to visit the station to make a report.”

Reporter: Now this is a quite extraordinary action, is this person the owner of a licensed firearm ? Do you all know what firearm was used ?

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City: “He is not the owner.”

Reporter: But you do know what firearm was used?

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City: “No.”

Reporter: Okay, is there any hope of recovering this firearm?

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City: “Well we have hope and we still have hope that we will also get the other two persons that we are looking for too.”

Reporter: Are you able to say where he was arrested ?

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City: “He was detained in Caye Caulker.”

Reporter: So you all had an ID on him from that location ?

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City: “Yes.

Petillo was arrested at Caye Caulker Village.
