Police say it was an ongoing rivalry that led to the death of San Ignacio resident 21-year-old Cori Anthony Cruz on Friday. Police found Cruz dead in an open lot at the corner of 15th Street and Baca Street around two thirty in the morning. Cruz was found face up with injuries to the head and face. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero says police do not know what was used to inflict the fatal injuries and they are awaiting the results of a postmortem examination. Several people have been detained in connection with the incident.

Reporter: Any idea of what was used ?
ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “We do not know at this time. We are awaiting a post mortem examination to see what are the findings. Nothing was taken from him. This is over some rivalry he has with some persons in that area.”

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “Some items were recovered but at this time these persons are being interviewed.”
The men detained in connection with the incident were found with Cruz’s motorbike.
