Only the people can save the people

NTUCB DEMAND 3

‘Only the people can save the people’ – that is the theme that was used in a demonstration headed by the National Trade Union Congress of Belize.  It was a handsome showing as teachers, public officers, private citizens, and other Belizeans came from the six districts to protest corruption.

‘Only the people can save the people’ – that is the theme that was used in a demonstration headed by the National Trade Union Congress of Belize.  It was a handsome showing as teachers, public officers, private citizens, and other Belizeans came from the six districts to protest corruption.  Our News Director followed the event and filed the following report.

A release from the National Evangelical Association of Belize came in this evening expressing support for the unions.  According to the NEAB, they along with their nationwide affiliate churches stand in full support of the demands that the union has presented.  The release reads, in part, quote, “We have reached a crisis point in our nation due to rampant disregard for the Constitution and for the rule of law, by no less than the very leaders who swear to uphold the Constitution that affirms that “men and institutions remain free only when freedom is founded upon respect for moral and spiritual values and upon the rule of law.” We stand in solidarity with the Social Partners in calling for a People Movement that demands accountability and just leadership in our nation. No one is above the law in our nation, and leaders are to lead by example. When they fail to, there must be consequences. We call the Church and our nation to fervent prayer and action for righteousness to prevail in our beloved Belize.”  End of quote.
